Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 April 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Maneki Neko Productions Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of thedailyquiz.app and “The Daily Quiz — Trivia” mobile app (the “Service”), collects and uses your information.
We try to collect as little as possible and to be plain about what we do with it.
1. What we collect
Information you give us directly
If you create an account, we collect your email address, a username, and a password (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you contact us, we keep the content of your email so we can reply and follow up.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Service we collect:
- Your quiz results, streaks, and score history (so we can show them back to you and keep leaderboards working)
- Device and browser type, operating system, approximate location inferred from IP address, and general usage data (pages visited, features used, time spent)
- A session identifier stored in a cookie or equivalent local storage, so you stay logged in
Payment information
If you subscribe, payments are processed by our payment provider or by Apple or Google. We don’t receive or store your full card details — only enough information to recognise your subscription (for example, a customer ID and the last four digits of your card).
2. What we don’t collect
We don’t sell your data, we don’t build advertising profiles from your quiz answers, and we don’t use your content to train machine learning models.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Run the Service — show you the daily quiz, track your score and streak, keep you logged in
- Maintain and improve the Service, diagnose bugs, and prevent abuse
- Send you transactional messages (password resets, subscription receipts, important service notices)
- Send you occasional emails about the quiz itself if you’ve opted in; you can unsubscribe any time
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Legal bases (for users in the EU, UK, and similar jurisdictions)
We rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- Contract — to provide the Service you’ve signed up for
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud, and improve it
- Consent — for optional marketing emails and non-essential cookies
- Legal obligation — where we have to keep records or respond to lawful requests
5. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, and only to the extent they need it. That includes:
- Our hosting provider (for running the website and app infrastructure)
- Our email provider (for transactional and newsletter emails)
- Our payment processor, Apple, and Google (for subscriptions)
- Analytics tools (for understanding how the Service is used, in aggregate)
These providers are contractually required to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transaction (merger, acquisition, or sale of assets).
6. International transfers
The Service is operated from Panama and uses providers that may store data in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers out of the EU and UK.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep it longer for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Aggregate and anonymised data (for example, “the average score on edition №20 was 8.2”) may be kept indefinitely.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that’s inaccurate
- Delete your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
For California residents: under the CCPA and CPRA, you have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We don’t sell or share personal information as defined in those laws.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@thedailyquiz.app. We’ll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
9. Children
The Service isn’t intended for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact hello@thedailyquiz.app and we’ll delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever become aware of a breach affecting your information, we’ll notify you as required by law.
11. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and local storage to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and measure usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Where required by law, we’ll ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
12. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll let you know through the Service or by email before they take effect. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised.
